Sakura steakhouse reopens

Sakura Japanese Steakhouse in Orchard Plaza opened Thursday after passing a follow-up state food safety inspection, reports show.

Sakura had been ordered closed by the state Department of Agriculture on Monday after an inspection found numerous violations, including improper storage of food, mouse droppings and rusted exterior doors, according to documents posted on WJACTV.com.

Sakura posted on its Faceboook page that the out of compliance for “insects, rodents & animals not present” was the result of gaps in exterior doors that could let pests in and parts have been ordered to repair the problem. The restaurant also said it does not have a pest infestation, saying, “We have an exterminator come regularly and take preventative measures in between visits.”

Sakura also is taking extra steps to correct problems and retraining staff on safe food storage and handling, the post stated.
