United Way supported
United Way of Blair County has partnered with local small businesses during this season of giving for the Small Business Checkout for Charity Campaign.
For two weeks that began Black Friday, local businesses are engaging their customers in the spirit of giving to support the community by offering customers the option to add a donation of $1 or more to their purchase. The money raised throughout the campaign will be donated to United Way of Blair County.
Participating businesses include Cartridges Galore (Altoona and Duncansville), JEMS Funky Consign-ments & More, Fox Hollow Boutique, The Clay Cup, Playtime Pottery, Beerbower Jewelers and Charlotte’s Trove.
Chamber sets breakfast club
The Tyrone Area Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Club will meet at 7:30 a.m.
Dec. 21 at The Bull Pen Restaurant.
Blair County Judge Timothy Sullivan will discuss family drug court and other specialty courts.
The cost to attend is $6.

Vendors needed for show
The Blair County Chamber of Commerce and the Blair Bedford Builders Association are accepting vendor booth reservations for the 48th annual Blair County Home and Garden Show to be held March 2, 3 and 4 at the Jaffa Shrine Center in Altoona.
Exhibitor booth space is open for home and garden-related businesses interested in showcasing their products or services.
The show also is accepting vendor applications for the Home Treasures room, which offers a boutique-style setting that features home interior items, candles, spices, hand-crafted items and more.

Initiative taking applications

Altoona will begin providing weekly business startup boot camps and one-on-one mentoring sessions that target emerging tech-entrepreneurs from the surrounding community as part of the Startup Alleghenies initiative.
These eight-week sessions will be held in the Ben Franklin Board Room in Catalyst Space, 1331 12th Ave., from
10 a.m. to noon. Classes will start Jan. 23 and run for eight consecutive Tuesdays, ending on March 13.
