Hospital partakes in contest

Tyrone Hospital officials are asking members of the community to submit stories about the importance of the hospital to them and the community.

Submissions will make Tyrone Hospital eligible to win up to $10,000 in the My Hospital My Community Contest.

Sponsored by athenahealth for hospitals with up to 50 beds, the aim of the contest is to create awareness and support for community hospitals.

Chamber offers trip to Ireland

The Blair County Chamber of Commerce will host an excursion to Ireland Oct. 4 -13.

Trip highlights include ground transportation from Altoona and round-trip airfare. Passengers will enjoy tours of Dublin, Killarney, Galway and more while experiencing breathtaking views of cliffs castles and historical landmarks. The cost of the trip is $2,939 per-person, double occupancy.

An informational meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Devorris Center for Business Development, 3900 Industrial Park Drive.

Detailed information will be presented as well as a question and answer session. There is no cost or obligation to attend the informational meeting. For more information call the chamber at 943-8151.

New barbecue opens in area

Old Carolina Barbecue Co. has opened its first Pennsylvania location at 5814 Sixth Ave.

Franchise owner Tony Pacifico said Old Carolina offers “real authentic barbecue.”

“We love the food, the people, the atmosphere and their passion for the best quality food and guest experiences. We are lucky to be part of Old Carolina and bring a true barbecue experience to Altoona,” Pacifico said in a statement.
