Denny’s to treat veterans

To celebrate America’s veterans this year, Denny’s invites active, inactive and military personnel on Friday to enjoy a free Build Your Own Grand Slam as a thank you for their service and dedication to the nation.

The offer is valid from 5 a.m. to noon with a valid military ID.

Bob Evans celebrating vets

Bob Evans Restaurants is celebrating Veterans Day this year by offering the choice of one of six free meals to veterans and active duty military personnel.

This year, veterans and active duty military personnel will be able to select free breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items on Saturday at all Bob Evans restaurants.

Guests wishing to enjoy one free meal on Veterans Day must provide proof of service.

Texas Roadhouse to treat vets

The Altoona Texas Road House will offer a free meal to all active and retired vets from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Proof of service is required to receive one of 10 entrees being offered.

Altoona home prices decrease

Home prices in Altoona, including distressed sales, declined by 4.3 percent in September compared with September 2016.

On a month-over-month basis, home prices, including distressed sales, decreased by 1.5 percent in September compared with August, according to CoreLogic, a global property information, analytics and data-enabled solutions provider.

Home prices nationally increased year over year by 7 percent from September 2016 to September 2017, and on a month-over-month basis, home prices increased by 0.9 percent in September compared with August, according to the CoreLogic Home Price Index.

Paper mills recognized

The American Forest & Paper Association has recognized Tyrone’s American Eagle Paper Mills with a

2017 AF&PA Leadership in Sustainability Award for Water for its Project Phoenix.

“American Eagle’s Project Phoenix proves that intentional focus on increased efficiency benefits company operations — environmentally, socially and economically,” said AF&PA president and CEO Donna Harman in a statement.

American Eagle Paper Mills commissioned Project Phoenix to increase efficiency and reduce water use at its Tyrone mill.

Infrastructure updates resulted in an 83 percent reduction in total daily river and watershed water withdrawal; a 91 percent reduction in daily water consumption; and an 18.1 percent reduction in process water effluent per ton of paper produced.

Weis Markets help food banks

Weis Markets announced its stores raised more than $270,000 to support local food banks during the company’s 10th annual Fight Hunger campaign.

In addition to the local donations, Weis and its customers joined together to donate $250,000 to hurricane relief efforts in the first week of the campaign, bringing the 2017 Fight Hunger grand total to $520,000 and the 10-year campaign total to more than $2.5 million.

Pet Valu to aid homeless pets

This November, Pet Valu will collect pet food and supplies for local homeless animals through its annual Thanks for Giving collection drive.

Benefitting thousands of animals living at shelters and rescues, Pet Valu is accepting product and food supplies in-store for pets. Pet Valu locations will also offer a

$5 “feed-a-pet-for-a-week” package, which includes enough to feed a homeless dog or cat for a week.

Pet Valu has a location in Plank Road Commons.
