Mount Aloysius recognized

Mount Aloysius College has again received the annual merit award from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting for achieving a

100 percent pass rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist examination for the latest group of graduates from the program.

Graduates obtaining national certification as a CST demonstrate an understanding of the basic competencies for safe patient care in the operating room.

The CST is widely recognized as the foremost credential for surgical rechnologists in the nation. The CST is required for employment within many local, state and national health care organizations.

Denny’s kicks off fundraiser

In an effort to help end child hunger, Denny’s is teaming up with No Kid Hungry for another year, helping give back a little this holiday season.

Now through Dec. 3, more than

1,600 Denny’s locations nationwide will work together to help fight childhood hunger across the country. To date, Denny’s has donated more than $4.3 million to the cause, helping provide 43 million meals to kids in need.

As part of this year’s fundraising efforts, guests visiting participating locations can make a $3 donation to No Kid Hungry and receive $12 worth of redeemable Denny’s coupons in return.

There will also be various ways to support the cause online: Users visiting Denny’s on Demand, the brand’s new online and mobile ordering platform, will be able to make a $1 donation with any order placed, or they can make a donation through www.dennysnokidhungry.com.

Workshops at PSU Altoona

Penn State Altoona, in cooperation with the Saint Francis University Small Business Development Center, will offer two free business workshops at Altoona Launchbox in downtown Altoona.

“The First Step: Pre-Business Planning” will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 26. Barry Surma, SBDC director, will address topics such as business and marketing plan basics, financing options, rules and regulations and business formation principles.

Surma will then present “Writing Your Business Plan” at 6 p.m. Nov. 15.
