Hometown Bank building 3rd location

CLAYSBURG — Hometown Bank of Pennsylvania is expanding into Blair County.

The bank, which opened offices in Everett and Bedford in 2007, plans to open a third location in Claysburg along Old Route 220 this summer.

“We hope to be open barring any construction problems by August,” said President Ted Chwatek, whose bank is the only locally owned and managed bank in Bedford County.

Claysburg is a good fit for the bank.

“We feel Claysburg is very similar to the communities in which we serve, in smaller towns,” Chwatek said.

Hometown Bank has 26 full-time and three part-time employees. Those numbers include two who will be in Claysburg. The bank plans to add three or four more, Chwatek said.

Chwatek said his bank is able to successfully compete with the larger banks in the area.

“We have the right people in place and we are very quick to react to requests. We have the mechanisms in place such as mobile banking and remote deposit, that gives us a more even playing field,” Chwatek said.
