Award recipient named
Sickler a longtime Tyrone supporter, businessman
TYRONE — A longtime Tyrone businessman and community supporter has been selected as the 16th recipient of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence.
Harry Sickler, senior partner of Harry K. Sickler Associates, will receive the award at the annual Business Excellence Dinner on June 12 at The Casino at Lakemont Park.
Sickler is also longtime owner of the Bull Pen Restaurant and founder of the Golden Eagle Monogram Club.
The Tyrone Area School District’s athletic park is named the Harry K. Sickler Jr. Athletic Park.
The award recognizes a Blair County business person who enjoyed an outstanding business career and who made a positive impact on the community.
“It is quite an honor; it is quite a group of people. I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of good people working with me. It is like in the Marine Corps; you rely on your buddies,” Sickler said.
Chamber President/CEO Joe Hurd said the most amazing thing is it took this long for Sickler to win the award.
“Harry is just an incredible guy. He is not flamboyant, with the awards and honors that have been bestowed on him. He does not do anything to grab the limelight, that has been a characteristic of all of our honorees,” Hurd said. “When you accomplish the number of things he has, it would be easy to revel in a lot of attention. He is a down to earth guy. When you look at his body of work, it is incredible the number of people who have benefited from the guy doing what he was put here to do.”
