Starbucks coming to local Target store

Starbucks soon will be coming to the Target store in Sierra North Plaza.

The store recently closed its snack bar, and there is an advertisement on the Target careers home page looking for “Starbucks team members” for Target’s Altoona location.

The ad also says the employees hired could cross train and work in other areas of the store as needed.

Target began placing Starbucks Cafes in their stores in 2002. Today, about 1,100 of the 1,806 Target stores in the United States have Starbucks Cafes.

Home prices in Altoona increase

Home prices in Altoona, including distressed sales, increased by 2.8 percent in January compared with January 2016. On a month-over-month basis, home prices, including distressed sales, decreased by 0.2 percent in January compared with December.

Home prices nationwide, including distressed sales, increased year over year by 6.9 percent in January and increased month over month by 0.7 percent in January, according to the CoreLogic Home Price Index.

Family Christian Stores closing

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — Family Christian Stores, the nation’s largest chain of Christian book stores, recently announced it will close its doors after 85 years in business.

The announcement did not specify a timetable for the liquidation, which will affect more than 3,000 employees at more than 240 stores in 36 states.

Family Christian has a local store at 120 Byron Ave.
