New hires and promotions
Dr. Roseanne Gichuru has joined Bedford Ob/Gyn Associates-UPMC.
Gichuru, who graduated with a dual degree in osteopathic medicine and a master’s in health care management from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, joins UPMC Bedford’s team of obstetrician/gynecologists, certified nurse midwife, pediatricians, anesthesiologists and nurses.
Krystal T. Edwards of Williamsburg has been hired as an associate attorney by the Altoona law firm of Goldstein, Heslop, Steele, Clapper, Oswalt and Smith, where she will practice real estate law and estate law.
Edwards is a graduate of Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education and elementary education from Juniata College, and a Master of Education degree in educational, leadership policy and development from The University of Bristol.
She received a law degree from Duquesne University School of Law.
Brian Krier, portfolio manager for the Altoona/ Johnstown region at Ben Franklin Technology Partners, has accepted the position of marketing research director for the center’s transformation business services network.
In this position, Krier and his colleague, Nate Porter, will be responsible for doing marketing research projects, one of the services the program offers early-stage entrepreneurs.
Awards and honors
Gina Lamendella, assistant professor of biology at Juniata College, received the 2016 Outstanding Mentor Award in the early career category from the Council on Undergraduate Research’s Biology Division.
Since arriving at Juniata, she has established a robust research program, using undergraduate students to study fracking impacts on streams and fisheries, Superstorm Sandy runoff effects, microbial communities, the neo-natal microbiome and mercury concentrations in brook trout.
In 2016, she received the college’s Beachley Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Dr. Jason D. Link of Roaring Spring has earned the designation of Fellow from Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.
The designation recognizes that a dentist has completed a series of studies on the clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide comprehensive aesthetic treatment for the dental patient as taught in LVI’s Core Series.
Anna Mae Campbell has retired from the Tyrone Hospital Volunteer Program.
Campbell served as a Tyrone Hospital volunteer for more than 12 years and during that time donated more than 1,530 hours of service. During her years as a volunteer, she assisted primarily with clerical activities. Campbell was based in the hospital’s marketing office but assisted many different departments as needed over the years.
