Charges filed after cellmates fight
From Mirror staff reports
EBENSBURG – Two Johnstown-area men are facing charges after an incident that started as a brawl between cellmates ended with a correctional officer injured.
Detectives with the Cambria County District Attorney’s Office said Vanthony Dwayne Nickolson Jr., 24, of 380 Beatrice Ave., and Dayon Dequan Richardson, 29, of 744 Smith Place were fighting in their cell at the Cambria County Prison when an officer attempted to separate them.
According to detectives, the officer was struck in the chest during a struggle and required assistance from other officers to gain control.
The officer apparently suffered a cut on his arm, requiring medical attention.
Both men face two counts each of felony aggravated assault and assault by a prisoner, as well as two counts each of simple assault and one count of reckless endangerment.
Online court records show Richardson has been in jail since January for failing to register with state police. He has three active cases filed in Common Pleas Court related to failure to comply with sex-offender registration requirements.
Court records show Nickolson has been in jail since mid-April for possession with intent to deliver drugs and possession of marijuana.
Both remain in jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
