Laurel sees milestone
From Mirror staff reports
DUNCANSVILLE – Doctors and staff at the Laurel Laser & Surgery Center reached a milestone in July – they removed their 10,000th cataract.
Dr. Stewart Van Horn, medical director of the surgery center, which is a part of the comprehensive eye care practice at the Laurel Eye Clinic – founded in 1973 – said he was proud to reach the milestone.
“Removing 10,000 cataracts in just over six years means that we have been fortunate to work with many great patients. It also means that I’ve had the opportunity to develop my skills to the point where I can offer very high quality, small incision cataract surgery,” Van Horn said in a statement.
As a facility, LLSC is a specialized ambulatory surgery center where only ophthalmic procedures are performed. VanHorn sees the advantages of working in a specialized ambulatory surgery center as another contributing factor to LLSC’s success.
The Duncansville location, which opened in 2007, is Laurel’s second surgery center. More than 30,000 cataract removals have been completed at the Brookville location which opened in 2000, said spokesman Mark Powell.
