Tussey Mountain resort expands its attractions
BOALSBURG – A local tourist attraction has a new name and new features to attract visitors.
“We have been re-branded. We no longer go by Tussey Mountain Ski Resort. W e are now Tussey Mountain All Seasons,” said Bennett Hoffman, director of operations. “We are trying to promote our resort as a year-round operation and destination.”
Tussey Mountain has poured about $250,000 into capital improvements.
Some of the additions include the Avalanche Canyon Gravity Zip Line, new batting cages, a new miniature golf course, an improved Par 3 golf course, renovations and additions to the skate park, renovations to the lodge, summer chair lift rides, The Lodge at Tussey Mountain offsite catering and Clem’s Barbeque on site.
The improvements should be beneficial, said Andrea Harman, spokeswoman for the Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County.
“It should help them attract people from the community and attract people from outside the area to enjoy these things. The batting cages and miniature golf should attract the younger people, but I would say the expansion is geared to a variety of age groups. They are not targeting any specific demographics. They are just expanding their operations,” Harman said.
Tussey Mountain also plans to focus on improving its customer service, Hoffman said.
The resort also is planning to make improvements geared to the winter season.
“We are getting ready to upgrade our snow-making activity in shorter windows. Last year, we added two state-of-the-art snow guns,” Hoffman said. “This year we will increase water pressure capacity to make more snow in shorter windows.”
The ultimate goal is to increase business.
“We want to increase revenues and to improve our relationship with the community,” Hoffman said. “We want to be successful and make a profit and want to have an impact on the community, that is a very powerful thing.”
