Mirror will print Somerset paper

The Altoona Mirror is taking on another printing job.

Effective with the March 8 edition, the Somerset Daily American will be printed at the Mirror and delivered to Somerset.

The Somerset paper has a daily circulation of 12,566.

The Mirror has been printing the weekly Morrisons Cove Herald since March 2011 and also does a variety of other printing jobs.

“We’re humbled at the trust placed in us by the management team at the Daily American, and committed to producing a high-quality product for the Somerset community,” said Erik P. Brown, Mirror general manager operations.

The Mirror and the Daily American sort of found each other, said Raymond M. Eckenrode, Mirror general manager advertising.

“There is a movement in the industry where companies with newer presses are looking for partners. Rather than spending big dollars on a press, they had been looking for a partner to print their paper,” Eckenrode said. “We found each other at the right time.”

He added that the partnership will keep the Mirror busy but not cause a dramatic change for employees or readers.

Rebecca Flyte, general manager of the Daily American, is excited about the partnership with the Mirror.

“We started to explore this to see if it made sense for us, and it did. Their advanced technology and the age of their press will give us a much better quality product than we are getting from our older equipment,” Flyte said. “We are very excited about the partnership.”
