Company adapts for shale gas industry

SPRUCE CREEK – A local hospitality company has formed a new division to further its involvement in the shale gas industry.

In anticipation of Act 9, which requires unconventional well operators to install specifically designed signs at the entrance of every unconventional well, Unconventional Well Pad Signs, a division of HomeWaters Retreats, was formed to design, manufacture and install signs in a quick, cost-effective way.

Unconventional gas wells extract gas through hydraulic fracturing.

Production of the signs began in mid-January at the HomeWaters site on Riverside Drive, said Troy Beaver, director of shale gas business development at HomeWaters.

“As active members of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, we wanted to bring our sign production experience and dedication to the unconventional gas business to help E&P [exploration and production] operating companies be proactive when it came to Act 9,” Troy Beaver said.

HomeWaters has been involved with the shale gas industry by hosting executive summits, management retreats and client appreciation events.

“Instead of going to golfing events, they come here to fish and hunt. We talked to the people and got to know their needs. We learned they needed new signs to meet all of the requirements of Act 9,” Troy Beaver said.

HomeWaters had the proper background to get into the sign-making business.

“We have a strong background in print production. For nearly 15 years, our family owned and operated a printing company, BeaverPrints. We know and understand design, proofing, production, delivery and all the elements that are required to create world-class signs and deliver them on time and on budget,” said HomeWaters founder Donny Beaver in a statement. “We’re combining our skill sets to help E&P operators stay ahead of the compliance curve.”

At the present time, about six employees are involved in the sign-making operation.

The company will make signs for companies such as Range Resources and Chesapeake Energy, Troy Beaver said.
