Dr. Shabnam Assar, Dr. David Gibbons
Dr. Shabnam Assar and Dr. David Gibbons were united in marriage on Oct. 22 at Vinton War Memorial, Roanoke, Va.
Dr. Assar is the daughter of Masoud Assar and Golnnaz Golestaneh of Phoenix.
The bridegroom is the son of Kenneth “Herbie” and Karen Gibbons of Bellwood.
The Rev. Jason Harrington officiated the double-ring ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage by her father.
Khushbu Shah was the maid of honor, and Sharon Gibbons, sister of the groom, was the bridesmaid.
Andy Dunn was best man, and Erfan Assar, brother of the bride, was the groomsman.
The couple took a wedding trip to Jamaica.
They reside in Roanoke, Va.
The bride is a 2002 graduate of Shadow Mountain High School, Phoenix, and a 2007 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a bachelor of science degree in biology.
The groom is a 2004 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and a 2008 graduate of Gannon University, Erie, with a bachelor of science degree in biology and chemistry.
Both are graduates of Ross University School of Medicine. Also, the couple recently completed their internal medicine residencies at Carilion Clinic — Virginia Tech Carilion.
The bride is continuing her training as an infectious disease fellow.
The groom is a fourth-year chief medicine resident and hospitalist.
He will then be a fellow in palliative care and hospice beginning July 1.
