South Hills students hold food drive for holidays

Members of South Hills School of Business & Technology’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) and Health Careers Clubs at the Altoona campus

recently organized a food drive to support the food pantries of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Altoona-Johnstown for the holiday season.

Its five food pantries serve more than 2,300 people per month in Blair and Cambria counties.

Electrical engineering major recognized as veteran

PITTSBURGH — John Yingling, a graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg, was recently featured on the Point Park University website for his service as a U.S. Army veteran.

Yingling is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Point Park University in downtown Pittsburgh.

He is the son of Jeffrey and Debbie Yingling of East Freedom.

St. Vincent freshman receives scholarship

LATROBE — Taylor Mihalow, who is currently a freshman at St. Vincent College studying Biology with a pre-veterinary concentration, recently won the 2018 PA Trio Scholarship.

The scholarship is offered to applicants that are members of Pennsylvania Trio Upward Bound Programs.

These programs help low-income, first generation students get into college and become successful individuals. She was a part of the TRIO Upward Bound Program at Saint Francis University.

Mihalow plans to attend veterinarian school in the future and

continue to show her love for animals.
