Nine students, under the direction of master scuba diver trainers Nick Weakland and Patricia Fitzgerald, donned wet and dry suits to dive into a portion of Glendale Lake practicing their search-and-rescue skills to remove any trash or unnatural debris polluting the park.

South Hills IT students attend Code Camp

Information Technology (IT) students from South Hills School of Business & Technology’s Altoona campus recently traveled to the Microsoft Training Center in Malvern to attend Code Camp 2018.

The event provided eight hours of free learning and networking and was run by Phlly.NET (Philadelphia Area .NET User Group) a user group focusing on Microsoft technologies.

The students had the opportunity to learn about some of the newest technologies available from professional developers and had a chance to meet with representatives from companies that hire entry-level IT graduates. South Hills Information Technology Program Instructor, Guido Santella, coordinated the trip and said, “I took my students to Code Camp this year because they are on their way to becoming professionals in technology and this event gave them a chance to meet some of the best in the field. They had exposure to developers that have been working in IT for 20 years, and they were able to keep up and have solid conversations with them about new technologies. Many of the people we talked with were surprised by what we teach at South Hills – the classes that we teach and the quality of the content. They were all very helpful in answering questions and encouraging the students.”

The students got to play with an 84″ Microsoft Surface and explore a modern data center. They also attended an Internet of Things (IoT) demo to learn about technologies that connect household and commercial objects and devices like home appliances, security systems, thermostats, and cars to the internet.

The students were able to choose from more than 45 training sessions.
