GACTC practical nursing students win national awards at conference
Practical nursing students from the Greater Altoona Career & Technology Center recently attended the Health Occupations Students of America National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.
Lorie Pentz,?Lori Remis and Becky Bradley took second place in the Biomedical Debate competition, “Is the Government Taking Care of Our War Injured Service Members?” and took home a silver medal. Initially, these students took first place at the Pennsylvania state competition.
In addition, Justin Hess finished first in the Growth and Development Category at the state competition and finished eighth nationally.
Attorney Tony Urban and Sue Burk’s Speech League and Mock Trial Team from Altoona Area High School met with the students in order to perfect their skills.
These three students donated their state medals to the family members of Chad Edmundson, a deceased soldier from Williamsburg, in a ceremony at the National Guard monthly meeting.
Pentz’s husband is on active duty with the U.S. Army Rangers, and Bradley’s father is a member of the National Guard.
