Ward recognizes scholarship recipients

Ward Transport & Logistics Corp. announced the winners of its 2014 Ward Scholarship program.

This year’s recipients, Andrew Matzik and McKenzie Williams, were chosen on June 17.

Four finalists, which also included runners-up Mae Miller and Samantha Fox, completed a written essay and individual interviews.

They also toured the Ward general office, sat in on a presentation by Dan Schultz, staff vice president of corporate accounts and customer support, then attended lunch with Ward family members and the scholarship judges.

The judges were C. David Kimmel, associate director for stewardship for Penn State Altoona; Sandy Sangiorgio, director of growth and business development; and George Foster, vice president/general manager of Lamar Outdoor Advertising.

Originally established in 1957 with a single $500 award, the Ward Scholarship program has continued to grow and now provides $8,000 to two winners, as well as a $200 prize for two runners-up annually.

Eligibility for the scholarship is open to the children of all full-time employees of Ward Transport & Logistics Corp.
