There’s something for everyone at the Central PA Pet Expo

Next Sunday, Oct. 20, is an exciting time for pet lovers in Central PA!

Not only is it the 10th Central PA Pet Expo but we’ve got some major entertainment to announce.

Halftime Dogs Flying Disc Show, which performs all over North America at national football, basketball, baseball, soccer, rugby and equestrian events, as well as pet expos, will be in the house!

Featured entertainer will be Jonathan Offi, a disc dog competitor and stunt/trick trainer who started playing Frisbee with pitbulls he’d rescued from shelters.

He now has 11 rescue dogs that perform all over the country. He toured with the Incredible Dogs Show and has appeared with his dogs on “Pit Bulls and Parolees,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” the World Dog Awards and many more.

He and his Belgian Malinois, Athena, are the 2016 world champions.

Watch for more on the Halftime Dogs show time in this Friday’s official show guide in the Altoona Mirror.

The annual Central PA Pet Expo will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Blair County Convention Center, lower level.

The expo is sure to entertain, as well as educate, attendees on being the best possible pet parents they can be.

In addition to pet-related vendors, including area veterinarians who will be on hand to speak with you, there are numerous entertainment and special guests.

Iceman Reptiles slithers in from Pittsburgh with an educational display of reptiles that can be touched and held.

The Altoona Area Kennel Association keeps the day moving with demonstrations and a parade of breeds showcasing approximately 20 different breeds of dogs helping potential pet owners learn about a specific breed before adopting.

Logan Township’s Police K9, Freddy, and handler, Officer Vazquez, will participate in a live working demonstration and Heaven Scent Search and Rescue’s bloodhounds, Ezra, Boaz and Malikai also will be presenting a search and rescue demonstration.

Centre Wildlife Care (wildlife rescue) will be there with an array of wildlife to teach about the professional care they give to orphaned and injured wild animals.

There will be volunteers from a dozen local and regional rescue groups and associations on hand with pets for adoption.

We couldn’t put on such an amazing event without our show sponsors, including Metzger Animal Hospital and Bob Pennington and Coldwell Banker Town and Country Real Estate who have been with us since year one.

Special rescue row sponsors this year also include Just Jak’s Pet Market, Diva’s Doggie Dos Mobile Pet Spa and Blair Animal Hospital.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Parking is free.

Because we will have such an array of animals, we ask that you leave your own pets at home.

If you have a bit of time next Sunday afternoon, pack up the family and head to the Blair County Convention Center and join us at the Central PA Pet Expo. If you love pets, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. Hope to see you there!
