Hollidaysburg library sets Sept. activities

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Area Public Library has announced its September events.

Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thurs-day, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The library will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday in observance of Labor Day.

n September is Library Card Signup Month. Through September, the library will be giving a coupon for a book from the Best of Friends Bookstore and a Hollidaysburg Area Public Library button to all who sign up for a library card.

n Ancestry: Library Edition is available for the public to use, free, on the library’s public computers.

n Girl Scouts Western PA hosts Library Girl Scout Daisies (kindergarten and first grade), Brownies (second and third grade) and Juniors (fourth and fifth grade) Troop 46502 and Troop 46695 from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays during the school year at the library. Email melanie

n Artwork by the students of Jennifer Wagner will be on display in the Community Room during the month of September.

n The Needlework and Arts Group (adult crafting club) meets from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesdays. Take your own materials and projects; call Janice at 695-2281 for more information.

n Allegheny Essential Oils Club will hold free classes from 6 to 7 p.m. each Wednesday in September. All are welcome; visit the club’s Facebook page for more information.

n The Knit Wits Knitting and Crocheting Club meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month. Take your own materials/projects; no signup is needed; visit the club’s Facebook page for more information.

n Free Tech Help will be provided from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 3 and 24 to help with technical questions on laptops, tablets, cell phones and other devices. No signup needed; first-come, first-served; call ahead for availability.

n Storytimes will be held at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in September. No signup needed; sometimes there will be special guests; children must be accompanied by an adult.

n Wednesdays ROCK intergenerational drop-in program will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. each Wednesday in September. All ages are invited to paint rocks to place in public places for finders to keep or re-hide. Post pictures of completed rocks to Facebook: Central PA Rocks.

n The Friends of the Hollidays-burg Area Public Library will hold its monthly business meeting at 10 a.m. Sept. 5, followed by guest speaker Grace Topping at 11 a.m. The guest speaker program is free and open to the public.

n The Mystery and Mayhem Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Sept. 5 to discuss “Staging is Murder” with special guest author Grace Topping. Copies of the book are available for purchase at the library.

n The ABC Photo Society will meet at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 9 and 16. Visit abcps.club for meeting topics; all are welcome.

n The Ukulele Crash Course: Kids will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 for ages 7-11. Learn three chords and several songs that use them! $5 materials fee per participant; ukuleles will be provided if needed; sign up by emailing melanie

n Ceramics Class will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 12. Kathy Brua of Fired Up Ceramics Co. will provide a variety of fall-themed project choices and all materials needed at a cost of $6 to $17 per project. n The Library Yard Sale will be held during regular library hours Sept. 19, 20 and 21. Library visitors are asked to donate salable items. No clothing, please.

n “Line Dancing with Texas Roadhouse” will be a special activity at Storytime held 10:30 a.m. Sept. 20. Learn some simple dance steps with Miss Megan. No signup needed; children must be accompanied by an adult.

n A free movie showing of “Bohemian Rhapsody” (PG-13, 2018, two hours, 13 minutes) will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 20. No signup needed; snacks will be provided.

n Ukulele Jam will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 22. The Allegheny Ukulele Kollective invites all interested people to attend; there will be ukuleles available to use. Email alleghenyukes@gmail.com for more information.

n Mini-Jam for Ukulele Newbies will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 24. All ages are welcome to attend. Take your uke if you have one; extras will be available to use if needed. This jam is for people who know the chords C, F, and G7, and would like to practice playing in a fun group setting. Participants receive a packet of one-, two- and three-chord songs to keep ($5 materials fee per person). You can also come and observe if you don’t feel comfortable playing yet.
