Rotary plans Summerfest 5K, parade

PORTAGE — The Rotary Club of Portage will sponsor a parade and 5K run this weekend as part of Summerfest.

The Portage Summerfest 2019 5K Run will be held Saturday at the football stadium. Awards will be presented to winners in various age groups. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the run will start at 8:30 a.m.

There is a $20 registration fee.

T-shirts and refreshments will be available for all participants. Proceeds benefit Crichton-McCormick Park and other Rotary projects.

Rotary also will sponsor the 2019 Portage Summer-fest Parade Saturday. Line-up will begin at 1 p.m. at the Centre Town Mall on Caldwell Avenue, and the parade will start at 2 p.m.

Several fire companies, rescue vehicles and ambulance associations will be there, and judges will award monetary prizes to the best floats and walking groups.

The parade grand marshalls will be The Tradition-al Anglers of Pennsylvania whose mission is dedicated to promoting, preserving and protecting the trout waters of Pennsylvania.

Risk management seminar is Aug. 14

PENNSYLVANIA FURNACE — The Pennsylvania State Council of Farm Organizations (PSCFO) will hold a community service seminar from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Aug. 14 in the Red Barn Upper Level at the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center, 2710 W. Pine Grove Road.

The seminar is being held in conjunction with AG Progress Days to inform farmers/agriculture producers about tools for risk management including crop insurance.

It is offered in conjunction with the Risk Management Agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

It will cover elements of a farm risk management plan which includes food safety, crop insurance and information on what to ask an insurance agent to make sure that farmers’ insurance needs are met.

The community service outreach seminar is free of charge to all who attend but registration is requested via vince@vphillipsassoc.com.

Ballroom dance set for Aug. 18

STATE COLLEGE — A ballroom dance event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 18 at Centre Hills Country Club, 153 Country Club Road.

Set to prerecorded dance music, there will be hors d’oeuvres, non-alcoholic beverages and a cash bar. The cost is $24 per person. RSVP is necessary by Sunday. To register, visit https://goo.gl/forms
