Stuff the Bus seeks school supplies

The Family Resource Center at United Way of Blair County is accepting donations of school supplies for the Stuff the Bus Campaign through Aug. 1.

On Aug. 2, volunteers from the Family Resource Center and United Way will pick up items at the various locations.

Volunteers will sort and pack the items for distribution.

Registration is now open for Blair County students to receive supplies.

Distribution for Stuff the Bus will be on Aug. 8 at the Family Resource Center at United Way’s new location: 208 Hollidaysburg Plaza, Duncansville.

Parents and area agencies may register children through Aug. 1 by calling 317-5108 to make an appointment.

To be eligible, Blair County students must be entering kindergarten through grade 12 with a need in the family for help with school supplies.

Those registering students must provide parent or guardian name, child’s age, gender and grade entering. Students must be registered with an appointment time to receive supplies.

For those wishing to donate, new school supplies can be accepted through Aug. 1 at the following sites: Altoona Area Public Library, Bellwood-Antis Public Library, Contact Altoona, Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, IQor, Joshua House Inc., M&T Bank (West Plank Road branch), Mountain View Eye and United Way of Blair County and Family Resource Center.

Supplies needed include: pencils, pencil boxes, construction paper, notebook paper and notebooks, folders, binders, glue sticks and glue, crayons, markers, kid’s scissors and scissors, erasers, rulers and backpacks.

In addition, Forever Media is teaming up with Stuff the Ambulance and AMED, to have a special collection of school supplies, “Christmas In July,” on Friday at Logan Valley Mall 8 AMC Theatre.

Other participants include Altoona Sunrise Rotary, Altoona Women’s Club, Beckwith Buses, Blair County Chapter of PA Retired School Employees, Faith United Church of Christ, UPMC Altoona, Ward Transport & Logistics LLC, Roaring Spring Paper Products, UPMC Altoona and Veeder Root.
