Mission Central recognizes volunteer

Mission Central in Mechanicsburg has named Barbara Glass of Altoona as the 2019 Volunteer of the year.

Mission Central in Altoona is a branch of Mission Central, Mechanicsburg, and is part of the Altoona District of the United Methodist churches.

This award was in recognition of Barbara’s outstanding dedication and hard work to the Altoona Hub at 1738 N. Branch Ave. and to the whole Mission Central outreach.

As site coordinator of the Altoona branch, she makes sure that all aspects are run smoothly. She also communicates and coordinates shipments to the home mission in Mechanicsburg.

She has spent many hours of leadership maintaining the smooth operations in Altoona that are necessary to continue the mission.

At the Altoona HUB, she also oversees the proper assembly of hygiene kits, baby care and school kits and cleaning buckets. These are sent to and distributed from Mechanicsburg throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Glass has coordinated distributions to more than 300 local agencies, churches and other ministries.

Barbara has been married to Don Glass for more than 60 years and has three daughters and a son. She is a longtime member of the Red Hat Society and an active member of First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg.
