William Barger of Altoona submitted this picture, which was taken from the roof of the Juniata Power Plant in 1971 or 1972. The view is looking toward Altoona. Piles of coal on the left were dumped there in preparation for the United Mine Workers Union strike. It never happened. The building in the foreground had been the scale shop. Steam locomotive patterns were created there. At the time of the picture, it was being used by the maintenence department. The building on the right in the background serviced passenger cars and was an upholstery shop. Barger’s friend Sam worked in the upholstery shop. They were Boy Scouts in Troop 7 from East End.
