Aircraft association to meet Saturday

MARTINSBURG — The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 400 will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the conference room of the main terminal at the Altoona-Blair County Airport.

This month’s meeting will include a presentation chapter member Dave Biseli regarding the building of a two place Sonex airplane and Aero-Vee engine.

New members are always welcome, and the meeting open to all who are interested in airplanes and the people who fly them.

State retirees to meet Thursday

STATE COLLEGE — The Centre County Chapter of the PA Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE) will meet at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at Hoss’s Steak & Sea House, 1450 N. Atherton St.

Members and guests are on their own for lunch.

The featured speaker is Joyce McKinley, director of Centre County’s Bureau of Elections and Voter Registration.

She will discuss the duties and responsibilities that her office provides to the public as well as an update on this year’s purchase of new voting equipment for the 2019 Primary and General Elections.

All PARSE members and retired state employees are encouraged to attend.

PARSE provides a variety of benefits to state retirees: dental insurance, vision insurance, pet insurance, long-term care, etc.

Redbud Quilt Guild to sponsor show

HUNTINGDON — The Redbud Quilt Guild will sponsor the 28th annual Huntingdon Quilt Show from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 26 and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 27 at the Huntingdon Community Center, 310 Fifth St.

There will be homemade crafts, quilts, the guild challenge, demonstrations and door prizes.

Admission is a $2 donation. Area quilters may register quilts from 9 a.m. to noon April 25.

The Redbuds are a nonprofit group active in Huntingdon County. The members supply most of the materials used for local projects including large charity quilts, blankets for toddlers and guild challenges.

They enjoy quilt shop hops, quilt shows, sewing get-togethers and retreats. Redbuds generally meet the second Tuesday of the month at the Huntingdon Career & Technology Center.

CAST plans bus trip to New York City

CLEARFIELD — The Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre Inc. is planning a “Do As You Please” bus trip to New York City on May 11. The cost is $75 per person. Fullington Trailways is providing the bus.

The tour will pick up participants at Sears in DuBois at 4:30 a.m. and at Clearfield Walmart at 5 a.m.

The bus will stop halfway to New York City for a quick restroom break, and make it into the city around 10 a.m.

Participants will be dropped off at the Port Authority bus terminal near Times Square. The bus will depart the city from the same terminal at 11 p.m.

Sportman’s club sets trout derby

WILMORE — The 2019 Wilmore Sportman’s Club Trout Derby will be held on April 27 from 6 a.m. to

5 p.m. — 5:30 p.m. to bring all fish and tags in.

Funds created by the event will be used in the club’s fish hatchery.

Registration is $35 for adults, $15 for children/

junior registration and $5 for big trout contest participation. Participants can register from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 26 and at 4 a.m. April 27 to receive badges. Registration and check-in will be at the Wilmore Sportsman’s Club, 2240 Portage St., Wilmore.

Senior center plans Zumba party

EAST FREEDOM — The Southern Blair Senior Center, 15229 Dunnings Highway, will hold a Zumba Fitness Party from 2 to 3:30 p.m. May 10.

Seniors can enjoy an hour and a half of Zumba Gold fun. The event is free for individuals 60 years of age and older.

A free gift will be given to all who attend, plus there will be tons of prizes and refreshments throughout the afternoon.

Individuals age 60 and over interested in attending are asked to call Kelly Benton, Southern Blair Senior Center coordinator, at 317-5181 by May 8 to RSVP for the event.

Relay plans Color Fun Run/Walk

SCHELLSBURG — The Relay For Life of Bedford County will host its annual 5K Color Fun Run/Walk on June 8 at Shawnee State Park.

This is a noncompetitive family fun event. Check in will be held at the boat rental parking area at 9 a.m., and the event will begin at 10 a.m.

Registration forms can be found on the Relay Facebook page. Participants can also register through the eventbrite website.

Preregistration by May 1 includes a T-shirt. Preregistration is $25 for adults, $20 for ages 4 to 12, $5 for dogs. Kids 3 and younger are free with paid adult but will not receive a T-shirt. Registrations received after May 1 are $30 for adults, $25 for ages 4 to 12, $10 for dogs. T-shirts for registration received after May 1 will be on a “first-come” basis.
