C-K to hold kindergarten registration

CLAYSBURG — Claysburg-Kimmel Elementary School has scheduled kindergarten registration for Thursday and Friday.

To be eligible for the 2019-20 kindergarten class, a child must be 5 years old before July 1.

Penn Cambria to register students

CRESSON — The Penn Cambria Pre-Primary School (located next to the high school) will hold kindergarten registration April 10 and 11.

Registration is by appointment only. Call 886-8166, ext. 1104, to arrange a time. Parents must take their child to the registration.

A child must be 5 years old before Sept. 1 to register for kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year.

Take the following required documents to registration.

n Immunization records — Take a copy of the immunization records with you or ask the doctor’s office to fax prior to registration if possible (886-4780). The school nurse will review these documents with you during the registration process.

n Child’s birth certificate.

n Parent/guardian driver license or other proof of residency.

n Custody or court papers, if applicable.

SFU Sign Day set for Sunday

LORETTO — The American Sign Language Program at Saint Francis University will host its annual Sign Day from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at DiSepio Institute for Health and Wellness on campus.

Students spend the day learning basic signs and playing fun games. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 are welcome, as well as Girl and Boy Scout troops. Register at francis.edu/Sign-Day-Registration.

South Hills open house Wednesday

South Hills School of Business & Technology will hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the South Hills Altoona campus, 541 58th St.

Potential students and guests are invited to enjoy a line-up of ongoing demonstrations, presentations and hands-on activities while learning about South Hills’ specialized associate degree programs in healthcare, business, technology and criminal justice.

Guests can tour the campus, meet faculty and speak with career services, financial aid and admissions representatives.

High school students, as well as returning adult students, are encouraged to attend.

River bank cleanup set for Saturday

SPRUCE CREEK — The Little Juniata River Association will hold its 14th annual River Bank Cleanup Saturday.

LJRA members and volunteers will meet at the Spruce Creek United Methodist Church parking lot at 9 a.m. where women from the church will serve drinks and treats from Tastykake.

There is also an upper river meeting point at the New Pig Corp. parking lot near Tipton for those who prefer to clean-up closer to Altoona.

More than 20 miles of stream banks and roadside pull-offs from Bellwood to Barree are visited.

Anyone who wishes to lead a group or participate as an individual, can contact Bill Anderson at 684-5922 or bjuniata@verizon.net, or simply show up in the church parking lot or the New Pig parking lot.

Bags, gloves and water will be furnished. The clean-up will be followed by a lunch hosted by the Spruce Creek United Methodist Church around noon.

March Madness Angel Fund Saturday

The Bishop Guilfoyle March Madness Angel Fund will be held from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Altoona Grand Hotel.

Participants can watch the Final Four NCAA games on a giant screen.

The cost is $50 per person (includes dinner, beer and the casino). There will be silent and Chinese auctions, Magic Money, 50/50, blackjack, Texas Hold ‘Em, roulette and craps.

Juniata College to host ‘Cinderella’

HUNTINGDON — The Huntingdon Dance Company will present the ballet “Cinderella” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday on the campus of Juniata College, Halbritter Center.

Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

Fort Roberdeau open house Thursday

Fort Roberdeau, a Blair County park, will conduct an open house from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 383 Fort Roberdeau Road.

There will be a display to inform the public of the proposed site accessibility and accommodations improvements on the national historic site and park grounds in Tyrone Township.

The project and grant application goal is to provide better accessibility to the Fort Roberdeau grounds, buildings and facilities. The major improvements proposed are outdoor bathrooms, informational signage, paved parking and pathways for easier access.

The purpose of this meeting to provide the public an opportunity to review and comment on the proposed project. Representatives of Blair County and Fort Roberdeau will answer questions and receive comments regarding the project.
