March 15, 1969

Altoona Hospital Candy Stripers Darnyl Wagner and Joanne McCracken were honored for 320 volunteer hours each while Mrs. H. Gilbert Jackson of the senior group was honored for 5,716 hours. Becky Cadle was Candy Striper president and Marlyn Miller president of the Senior Auxiliary.

25 YEARS AGO:

March 15, 1994

A plan proposed by a private citizen to allow people to purchase the parking space in front of their homes was “tabled” by City Council. A survey of 200 residents found about one half in favor and one half opposed.

10 YEARS AGO:

March 15, 2009

The Cresson Volunteer Fire Company abandoned plans to burn down the historic but crumbling Braemar Cottage with a controlled burn due to state regulations. Cresson Township supervisors had been trying to bring down the building, owned by the Cresson Area Historical Society, for years.
