The Artist of the Month for February at the Altoona Area Public Library isn’t one artist. It’s a collection of local artists known as Art in Common.

Art In Common is a non-profit organization that started in 1986 as a forum for artists, photographers, digitals artists and sculptors to network with other artists, exhibit and promote their artwork. It soon became a flourishing group of creative friends/family who could share their common interest in art.

In fostering the creation and appreciation of art work, Art in Common presents several exhibitions throughout the year. This group of artists from Blair and surrounding counties is responsible for overseeing exciting happenings in our local Art Community.

“Artists in our Midst” exhibition, a show held each year at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, Altoona, is another venue offered to Art in Common members. Its members organize this show which is held in the newly revamped downtown Altoona. This prestigious juried exhibition is one of their favorites.

Along with the “Just So Big” exhibition held at the Blair County Arts Foundation, Art in Common is excited to be displaying their work again at the Altoona Area Public Library. A beautiful selection of paintings, drawings, photography and digital artwork by members of Art in Common is on display in the gallery on the ground floor of the library.

The group has regular meetings at Southern Allegheny Museum of Art, Altoona.
