Blair Garden Club flower show ‘a delight’

Event set to return in summer of 2020

HOLLIDAYSBURG — On July 28, Blair Garden Club presented a Small Standard Flower Show at the First United Methodist Church.

According to organizers, “impressive entries, the welcoming venue and lovely weather set the stage for a delightful event.”

The show included 16 floral design entries, 179 horticulture entries, 34 photography entries and three educational entries.

Leadership for planning and staging the event was provided by committee chair Rene Hrescak.

Teams of National Garden Club-certified judges evaluated entries in a variety of categories and granted awards too numerous to mention.

Judges selected the following entries for top awards:

Top Design Award

Best in Show – “Evening at the Mishler” by Paula Binus.

Awards of Merit

Annuals — Kathy Hughes, Salvia Farinacia.

Perennials — Lisa Merschiltz, Butterfly Weed.

Corms, Rhizomes, Tubers — Mary Cramer, Elephant Ears.

Herbs — Dana Lawlor, Sweet Basil.

Vegetables — Nancy Smith, Peppers.

Growers’ Choice Awards

Container Gardening — Collection of Succulents, Linda Renney.

Hanging Baskets — Linda Renney.

Arboreal Award

Beverly Kennedy, Ginkgo Biloba.
