Altoona library sets Dec. programs
The Altoona Area Public Library has announced its activities for December.
n The youth room hosts a Pokemon Trading Card Club for Trainers ages 6 to 13 at 6:30 p.m. Mondays. Take your Pokemon cards to trade and play with fellow trainers. Call 946-0417, ext. 123, for more information.
n The book discussion group meets at 6:45 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the alumni room. December’s selection is “Beautiful Ruins” by Jess Walter.
n Children ages 6 to 14 (plus caregivers) can create their own holiday decorations using just folded paper during a Holiday Origami Program at 6:30 p.m. today in the youth room. Call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.
n Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to join a Lego Club at the library. All they need is their imagination. Registration is required. Call the library at 946-0417, ext. 123, to register
n Make your own ornaments with Fired Up Ceramics at 6 p.m. Dec. 13 at the library. Call 946-0416, ext. 125, to register.
n Children ages 6 to 14 (plus caregivers) are invited to spend some time playing Minecraft and explore Minecraft activities at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 15 in the youth room. Register by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.
n Children ages 6-14 (plus caregivers), can join the library for “Around the World” at 5 p.m. Dec. 17 in the youth room. The program focuses on a different country each month. Learn about the culture of the country through crafts, food, games and other fun activities. To register, call 946-0417, ext. 123.
n There is an exciting new class in the youth room for children ages 3 to 6 — Learning with Legos. The class provides children with opportunities to develop skills of the 21st century: collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and problem solving. Classes are held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and 1 p.m.. Wednesdays. To register, call 946-0417, ext. 123.
n Carol Scarbro will present “Essential Oils of the Bible” at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at the library. Registra-tion is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 125.
n Stop by the Penn Highlands Community College table from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the library.
n Families are welcome to enjoy a free movie on the library’s big screen. “Diary of a Wimpy Kid — The Long Haul” (Rated PG) will be shown at
1 p.m. Dec. 15.
n All homeschool families are invited to the Homeschool Hub from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 28 at the library. Come to the library to meet with other homeschool families for fun educational and social opportunities.
n Children ages 8 and younger (plus caregivers) are invited to join the youth room for some special dragon-themed stories and crafts at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 29. Call 946-0417, ext. 123, to register.
n The Friends of the Altoona Area Public Library are selling pecans at the library for $10 per bag. Choose from cinnamon-glazed, chocolate-covered, caramel cluster and plain. All proceeds benefit the library.
n Families of young children are invited to check out the library’s freeeducational story time programs for caregiver and child to enjoy together. Developmentally appropriate and enjoyable programs for children ages 1 to 6 are offered weekly. Registration is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 123.
