Sponsors needed for ‘Night at the Races’

The George M. Lechner Memorial Scholarship Fund Committee at Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School is seeking support from local businesses with a donation to help with its fundraising event, “George’s Pony Rides: A Night at the Races.”

The inaugural event is scheduled from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Bavarian Hall, 112 S. 13th St., Altoona.

A horse is $20 to purchase and you could win $100 if your pony is the race winner. Participants get to name their horse.

To reserve a horse, contact any of the committee members, who are George’s children and their spouses.

The support within the local communities and local businesses will help continue George’s legacy and wish to help local students attend Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School.

Lechner died on May 1. He “adored” Bishop Guilfoyle, where all five of his children attended and where all of his 13 grandchildren have either attended or will attend.

Lechner spent many years coaching in the Altoona Parochial League and later served as equipment manager for BG football. He wanted continued support for students attending BG and asked for this memorial fund to be set up in his name.

There are several ways to support the “Night at the Races” fundraising event. Donations can be in cash, gift card or a donated item.

Company donations will be acknowledged on thank-you banners, as well as in the program for the event

There are four sponsorship levels this year:

Freshman Level — $50 (Door Prize Sponsor).

Sophomore Level — $100 (Race Sponsor).

Junior Level — $250 (Beverage or Dessert Sponsor).

Senior Level — $500+ (Event Sponsor).

Please send your company logo to Joe DeLeo at jdeleo@blaircompanies.com for recognition on banners and in the program booklet.
