Ivyside Pride to perform this weekend

Penn State Altoona’s Ivyside Pride choral group will perform “Verdi Meets Broadway” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $5 for Penn State students and $7 general admission. Children under 12 are free.

Ice hockey game to help fight cancer

Penn State Altoona’s ice hockey club and College Hockey East have teamed up with the Mario Lemieux Foundation, The Griffith Family Foundation and THON for the College Hockey Combats Cancer campaign. Purple Puck Night will take place at 5 p.m. Friday when the Nittany Lions host the Saint Vincent Bearcats at Galactic Ice Rink, Altoona.

The evening will kick off with a ceremony to support those fighting cancer, to celebrate those who have beaten it, and to honor families that have lost someone to the disease.

During intermission, a mini scrimmage will take place between Altoona area youth hockey teams. Penn State students will have a chance to win Penn State hockey tickets, and all fans in attendance will have the chance to win Pittsburgh Penguin tickets donated by Mike Magee, Penn State Altoona’s ice hockey assistant coach.

Attendees will be able to bid on raffle baskets, t-shirts, commemorative pucks, a PK Subban jersey, artwork by Tammy Stubbs and Pittsburgh Penguin tickets.

There will also be an auction for an autographed hockey stick by Pittsburgh Penguin draftee and Hollidaysburg’s own Sam Lafferty.

The event raises awareness and funds for cancer research.

Christmas extravaganza coming up

WARRIORS MARK — The fifth annual Christmas extravaganza pancake breakfast will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church, 1840 Centre Line Road.

Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, milk and juice. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for pictures from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Huntingdon county Pop-up Library will be on site with activities and crafts for kids. Also, there will be vendors, funnel cakes, homemade pies and lunch will be available.

Historical Society to meet Monday

EVERETT — The Bloody Run Historical Society will meet at 4 p.m. Monday at the Everett Free Library. All interested persons welcome.

The Railroad and Community Museum is closed for the winter and will reopen in April.

Those wishing to purchase the Society’s historic Everett post card book as a special Christmas present can contact Barb Miller at 8l4 652-5258. The cost is $20.

The historical exhibit at the Everett Free Library running through December features news articles and photos of Christmas celebrations at the RR Museum and in town and include the current Mature Living article featuring Santa Paul Price including photos with youngsters sharing their Christmas hopes with him through nearly 40 years. The Society wishes everyone a Merry Christmas.

State retirees will meet Nov. 29

DUNCANSVILLE — A meeting of the Pennsylvania State Retirees of Cresson, Altoona and Ebensburg centers will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Prime Sirloin Buffet.

Craft show in Bellwood slated

BELLWOOD — A craft show, sponsored by the Berky Bunch Relay for Life Team, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Myers Elementary School. The show will feature a huge variety of crafts and food vendors along with special activities for the kids.

Some of the activities will include:

n Visits and photos with Santa

n Santa’s Secret Workshop — Parents can help their kids make a shopping list and then the kids will be paired up with a shopping buddy to assist them with their shopping. There will also be a wrapping station for them to wrap their purchases before they leave.

n A card making station for kids to make cards to either take home or to send to children at St. Jude’s Hospital.

The event and special activities are free to the public to attend. This event benefits the Berky Bunch Relay For Life Team of the Relay For Life of Central Blair and the Bellwood-Antis Public Library.

Beekeepers group to meet Sunday

EBENSBURG — The Cambria-Clearfield-Blair County Beekeepers will meet in Cambria County at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Extension office, Manor Drive. This is the Christmas social and there is no fee.

You need not be a beekeeper to attend.
