GALLITZIN — The Lions Club of Gallitzin will hold a Halloween parade at noon Sunday, beginning at S&T Bank, 701 Main St.

Mammography event is today

In honor of breast cancer awareness month, UPMC Altoona will host a mammography screening event day from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

The event welcomes scheduled and walk-in mammogram patients and will have a variety of vendors, tables and giveaway items for patients on this day.

This is the first time UPMC Altoona has hosted a mammography screening event day.

“Each year, we try to do something during breast cancer awareness month to honor those who have been through, or friends and family members of those who have been through, the difficult experience of breast cancer,” said Mike Corso, vice president of operations at UPMC Altoona and UPMC Bedford. “This year, we wanted to do something that made more of a direct impact on our patients.”

When patients arrive that day, they should enter through the UPMC Altoona entrance of Station Medical Center where they will be greeted at registration and directed to the various vendors and specialties offered.

The event will include Rodan + Fields skin care consultants and products, Scentsy candle vendors, Reiki Center for Body and Mind massages for patients, Trendz by Poppy fashion store vendor, LuLaRoe clothing vendor, snacks and refreshments and UPMC Altoona giveaway bags.

UPMC doctors will be at the event to mingle with patients.

Women age 40 and older who are eligible through their insurance for a screening mammogram and who do not already have an upcoming scheduled mammogram can receive one without an appointment. A doctor’s order is encouraged but not needed, but patients must designate a doctor at the time of the screening to receive and interpret the results.

Health insurance will be billed for this screening. Women without health insurance are welcome, and assistance will be provided to support covering the cost of the screening.
