Altoona library sets activities for September

Computer Basics I — Are you new to computers? Learn the fundamentals of Microsoft Windows during this ongoing four-week series. Topics include: Using the mouse and keyboard, internet starter, email and Facebook. Registration is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 125.

Computer Basics II — Continue learning computer and internet basics during this ongoing four-week series. Topics include file storage, internet safety and Social Media 101. Registration is required by calling 946-0417, ext. 125.

All Day Knit-In — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the board room. Come for a few hours or stay all day. Enjoy the company of others who enjoy doing handiwork. Teachers will be available. Beginners should take size 8 needles and some light-colored yarn. This is a free program.

Pokemon Trading Card Club for Trainers — For ages 6 to 13 at 6:30 p.m. Mondays in the Youth Room starting Sept. 10. Take your Pokemon cards to trade and play with fellow trainers. Call 946-0417, ext. 123 for more information.

Halloween-themed Paint Space — 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Fridays in September in the library’s board room. Completed pieces will be displayed at Zombietown (optional). The cost for this four-week Zombie Edition Paint Space is $20 and will include one canvas, acrylic paints, brushes and easels. Beginners to experts are welcome. Some instruction will be available, but primarily participants will utilize how-to-paint videos from YouTube. Prepayment and registration are required by calling 946-0417, ext. 125.

Lego Club — Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to join a Lego Club at the library. All they need is their imagination. Registration is required. Call the library at 946-0417, ext. 123, to register. (Sept. 10-Group A at 6:30 p.m.) (Sept. 27-Group B at 5:30 p.m.)

“Learn to Paint on Canvas” — 6 p.m. Sept. 13. Participants will leave the class with their own “Pumpkin on Canvas.” The cost for materials is $30. To register, call 946-0417, ext. 125.

Learning with Legos — The program provides children ages 3 to 6 with opportunities to develop skills of the 21st century: Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving. Free showing of the movie “Peter Rabbit” — 1 p.m. Sept. 15 on the library’s big screen.
