Yard sale to aid Association for Blind

The Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind will hold an indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Association for the Blind office at 300 Fifth Ave., Altoona. The sale will be held rain or shine.

Proceeds will benefit the Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind’s Client Fund.

Clothes will be $4 per bag (includes lots of junior sizes), and the sale will also include shoes, books, toys, household items and more.

Beekeepers to meet in Houtzdale

HOUTZDALE — The Cambria-Clearfield-Blair County Beekeepers will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Houtzdale Fire Hall, 601 Good St.

The topic will be “Winter Prep.”

There is no charge to attend, and participants do not have to be beekeepers.

BCAF Bravo Basket Bingo is Oct. 9

The Blair County Arts Foundation will hold its Bravo Basket Bingo at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Bavarian Hall, 112 S. 13th St., Altoona. The doors will open at 5 p.m.

Prizes will include Market Baskets, Grace and Heart jewelry and Coach purses.

Two ticket packages are available — $25 and $60. Each includes a turkey dinner, soda, desserts and entry for the grand prize.

The Mishler Theatre has served as the community’s cultural center for more than 100 years, and the proceeds from this fundraiser will be utilized to ensure the restoration continues for this playhouse and that it will be enjoyed by future generations.

Historical foundation sets banquet

PHILIPSBURG — Author Clifford Krainik of Warrenton, Va., who is writing a biography of Philipsburg pioneer John Plumbe Jr. (1809-1857), will be the featured speaker at the annual meeting and dinner of the Philipsburg Historical Foundation, to be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Parish Hall of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Tickets are $25 per person, which includes a buffet catered by Paul Adler of Adler’s Market.
