NAMI to offer Mental Health First Aid program

NAMI PA Blair County will present free training for community law enforcement and first responder personnel.

The Mental Health First Aid program is an interactive eight-hour course, taught by a team of two trained facilitators. The course introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs/symptoms of mental illness and or a potential mental health crisis, builds understanding of their impact and provides of overview of common treatments and support methodology.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be certified as active Mental Health First Aiders for a three-year period.

Participants may choose from the following dates:

Sept. 19 — 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nov. 13 — 8:30 am to 5 p.m.

Courses will be held at the Southern Alleghenies EMS Council training facility, 2900 Beale Ave., entrance B, Altoona.
