Blair Garden Club to present flower show
HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Blair Garden Club will
present a Small Standard Flower Show from 1 to 4 p.m. July 28 at the First United Church of Hollidaysburg, 801 Allegheny St.
The show, titled “Our Neck of the Woods,” features floral designs, special exhibits, photography and horticultural samples.
Blair Garden Club is a member of National Garden Clubs Inc. Judging and awards will follow national guidelines.
The public is invided to attend the show. There will be no charge for admission, and light refreshments will be served.
Floral design, titled “Beauty in Our Midst,” will feature themes that align with some of the highlights of life in Blair County. Designs will be organized into four categories: Riding the Rails, Evening at the Mishler, A Day in the Park and Take Me Out to the Ballgame.
The special exhibits, titled “In the Know,” include a look back at gardens in Blair County, as well as examinations of how gardens are affected by climate change, and how organic gardening compares to use of pesticides.
Horticultural samples will be grouped into 10 categories; new categories include container gardening, hanging baskets and a collector’s showcase.
This “Our Neck of the Woods” Flower Show is a special event that complements the ongoing community service activities of the Blair Garden Club:
n Planting and maintaining gardens and planters at the Mishler Theatre, the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shop, the common area at the Seventh Street Bridge, Baker Mansion, the Hollidaysburg Library gazebo, the Pollinator Garden at Bellwood Schools and the Discovery Garden at Legion Park.
n Providing hands-on educational experiences for local students.
n Decorating for the holidays at the Altoona Area Public Library and at Baker Mansion.
n Providing environment-friendly plantings for wetlands.
n Coordinating landscaping for Habitat for Humanity projects.
