Duncansville Community Days set for July 19-21

DUNCANSVILLE — At its latest meeting, the Dun-cansville Community Days Committee announced its plans for the borough’s annual summer event.

This year’s celebration will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. July 19 and 20 and 4 to 10:30 p.m. July 21 at Duncansville Memorial Park.

The festival will feature free concerts and entertainment each evening, as well as festival food provided by local nonprofit organizations, kid’s games, the Wallace petting zoo, bounce house, plush pig races, climbing wall, arts and crafts booths, nightly bingo and the Duncansville Area Historical Society.

The U.S. Army National Guard will also provide a Video Trailer complete with X-box games, music videos and movies throughout the three evenings.

The Duncansville Volunteer Fire Company will hold a chicken barbecue beginning at 11 a.m. on July 21.

On July 19 (Family Night), the festival will sponsor an antique car show cruise-in. All entries will receive a free gift pack just for showing up. No advance reservations are needed. Diesel Doctor will be on site for those who will like to “rev-it-up.”

For the kids, the Lilly Mountain Alpacas will be on display throughout the evening.

The Altoona Chorus of Sweet Adelines will open the evening with a concert, followed by a magic and balloon show by the Toontown Klowns. Appear-ing for the first time in the area, Firefly Entertainment Juggling and Variety Show will perform later in the evening. This show features magic, fire juggling and other variety skills in a 45-minute show. The evening will close with music by RokKandy, a 60s-70s oldies band.

July 20 (Millennial Night) will feature the national recording group Second Time Thru, an “all-age” band that is centered on rich, four-part harmonies and musical synergy where the total exceeds the sum of the parts. The opening act will be Altoona’s own Shallow 9. The entire show begins at 6 p.m.

For the kids that evening, Altoona Curve mascot Al Tuna will be on hand to meet and greet children of all ages and pass out “goodies” and sign autographs.

The entertainment on July 21 (Tropical Island Night) will be headlined by The Buffettman Tom Watt, a Jimmy Buffett impersonator who both looks and sounds like Buffett himself. The “Fruitcake Band” will back Tom in his show complete with steel drums. Opening for “The Buffettman” will be The Phil McCaulley Project.

The Horseshoe Cloggers will present their annual program by opening the entertainment lineup, beginning at 4 p.m.

All entertainment is free of charge and will be held rain or shine. As there is limited seating available, attendees are encouraged to take seating or blankets.

A fireworks display by Brumbaugh Fireworks will cap off the festival at 10 p.m. Saturday.
