Sisterhood Series ready to launch March luncheon

The United Sisterhood Series of Blair County is gearing up for its March luncheon on Thursday with the third installment of inspirational luncheon speakers at The Casino at Lakemont Park, Altoona.

Maureen Dodson, Ph.D., senior manager of Baker, Tilly Virchow, Krause LLC, will present to the audience “Who do you see when you look in the mirror?”

She will discuss how important your inner voice is in how you see yourself and the world.

The program will run from noon to 1:30 p.m.

The cost is $10 for lunch and the presentation.

The United Sisterhood Series is a new initiative for women, men and students of all ages in all phases of life who come together to support, network, encourage, inspire and motivate each other.

The initiative kicked off in the fall of 2017 when Penn State Women’s Basketball Coach Coquese Washington came to Hollidaysburg to present “Strong Women: May we know them, be them and raise them.”

She was followed in January by Deb Yeskey, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, Department of Health and Human Services. Yeskey’s presentation was “Who do you want to be when you grow up?”

The summer months’ presentations are expected to cover couples and family dynamics. The fall schedule is shaping up to include an Olympic gold medalist and a top survivor of Shark Tank joining the luncheons as presenters.

Also scheduled for fall will be opportunities for high school students to be mentored by those in specific career fields in which students may express an interest.

“We have embarked on this exciting new adventure to gather adults, young people and students together to learn, network and be inspired,” Sue Griep, a founding member, said.

“We would not be happier with those speakers who have expressed an interest, and are rallying around this effort to encourage each other in this support network. Life is tough, but if you have friends, family and your community supporting this walk, it make it so much easier. This is all about helping each other learn, grow, blossom, finding your joy and embracing life.”

United Sisterhood partners include Saint Francis University, Loretto; Mount Aloysius College, Cresson; the Griffith Family Foun-dation/Sideline Cancer; the Casino at Lakemont; and Tyrone Events and Promotions.
