Pittsburgh Technical College launches scholarship competition

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Technical College has launched PTCYOUSoon, a scholarship competition with a total of $50,000 available to students who enroll at PTC.

The competition is open to all class of 2018 high school students.

The scholarships will be awarded based on how students respond to the question: “What Inspired You to Pursue Your Career?”

Students can choose between two options for entering.

The first is to submit an original 200-word essay, along with a photo that imaginatively supports it.

The second option is to answer the question with a two- to three-minute video. The more creative the video, the better.

“Through the PTCYOUSoon Scholarship competition, Pittsburgh Technical College is able to identify career motivations that are novel, fascinating or heartwarming from students residing in Pennsyl-vania and beyond,” said Doug Cerminara, director of high school admissions at Pittsburgh Technical College.

“And it provides these students with an opportunity to share their stories in a fun, creative, even zany way through an image or a video, mediums most high school seniors are very comfortable sharing.

“With these scholarships,” Cerminara said, “we can lighten students’ financial obligations as they prepare to gain the knowledge necessary for a successful career here at PTC.”

All PTCYOUSoon Scholarship submissions will be judged by current members of PTC staff and advisory committees.

The top entries in each category will be awarded scholarships as outlined below:

n Best in Show Photo Winner (one) — $10,000.

n Best in Show Video Winner (one) — $10,000.

n Gold Winners (five) — $5,000.

n Silver Winners (five) — $2,500.

n Bronze Winners (five) — $500.

Since it is possible to be both a gold winner and a Best-in-Show winner, one student potentially can be awarded a total of $15,000.

The submission deadline is March 5, and only one entry per student is permitted.
