Keep Blair Beautiful receives $18K

Keep Blair Beautiful, an initiative of the IRC, has received $18,000 from Keep America Beautiful.

This money will be used to finish the boardwalk along the Marsh Trail project at Canoe Creek State Park.

The boardwalk was started by the Friends of Canoe Creek and the Hollidaysburg Area High School to provide handicap accessibility and yearlong access around Canoe Lake, thanks to grant funding from Keep America Beautiful in 2017.

This additional funding allows the boardwalk to be completed by high school studemts this spring.

The remainder of the funding will also be used for other Keep Blair Beautiful projects.

“Canoe Creek State Park is appreciative of the community support from groups like the Friends of Canoe Creek, Hollidaysburg Area High School and the Keep Blair Beautiful group,” said Joe Basil, Canoe Creek State Park manager. “This funding allows us to complete a project that has been on our wish list for several years and provides a wonderful amenity to our park for the community.”

Keep Blair Beautiful volunteers meet at 6 p.m. on the last Wednesday of every month at Hollidaysburg Area Public Library. To get involved, contact Katrina at 942-7472 or kpope@IRCenvironment.org.

Wrapping collection nets 7K pounds

The Intermunicipal Relations Committee (IRC), in cooperation with the Logan Valley Mall, collected more than 5,000 pounds of corrugated cardboard for the Concord Plastics of PA and nearly 2,000 pounds of wrapping paper for the Center County Recycle & Refuse Authority during the Holiday Wrapping Collection on Dec. 26 and 27.

These materials are locally processed then sold as recycled feedstocks to manufacturers, creating jobs across the state. Several hundred county residents responded to the invitation.
