Local fifth-grader participates in national competition in CA

Laura Reed, daughter of James and Natalie (Barlick) Reed of Altoona, earned the opportunity to attend the national competition of the National American Miss Pageant in Anaheim, Calif.

Laura is a fifth-grader at Juniata Elementary School, where she plays violin, participates in Student Council and the drama club, volleyball, basketball and cheerleading. She also has received the Principal Award and was on the high honor roll.

She participated in the state pageant in Harris-burg with talent and actress optionals which earned her a spot to nationals.

While in California, she toured Disneyland, Los Angeles and Holly-wood.

The National American Miss is dedicated to developing the success of young women across our nation with a program that is designed to be age-appropriate and family-oriented.

The pageant program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise and presentation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes, and setting and achieving goals.
