CPHS Chili Fest & Wings slated for Jan. 27

Annual event looking for contestants and sponsors

The Central PA Humane Society will hold its Chili Fest & Wings fundraiser from 5 to 10 p.m. Jan. 27 in the grand ballroom at the Bavarian Aid Society, Altoona. Attendees must be at least 21 years old.

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased from the Central PA Humane Society and Thompson’s Pharmacy locations in Altoona and Hollidaysburg.

Contestants are made up of restaurants and individuals from Blair and surrounding counties — all vying

for the title of Best Chili and/or Best Wings.

The entries will be judged by a panel of celebrities, including KC Kantz from WTAJ-TV, Altoona Mayor Matt Pacifico and Brian Gates, CEO and founder of Bri’s Rock & Ride for Autism Solutions.

There is also a People’s Choice Award voted on by participants as they all get to sample the chili and wings.

This year, there will be a live band — Shallow 9, which will play from 7 to 10 p.m.

In addition to the chili and wings tastings, a cash bar will also be available.

Basket raffles, 50/50 raffles, gift certificates and great prizes will also be on hand to help fund CPHS projects.

Corporate sponsors include the Bavarian Aid Society and City Beverage as title sponsors, along with ATS Transmissions & Pro Diesel, Anytime Truck & Tire, Wendy’s on Plank Road, Montgomery Brothers Plumbing & Heating, ERP Essentials, Frederick Lock & Key, Shaffer’s Full Steam Ahead, Central PA Physicians Group, Wick Copy Center, Rustic Country Furniture, Hite’s Garage, The Award Man and Fiore True Value Hardware.

CPHS is still looking for sponsors and contestants so if you would like to be involved and support the shelter animals, call Theresa Shirley at 937-6731 or email theresa.centralpa

humane@yahoo.com.

Proceeds from the CPHS Chili Fest & Wings will benefit the Central PA Humane Society general operations and day to day running of the shelter.

CPHS takes in approximately 1,500 to 2,000 unwanted and abandoned animals every year. It receives no government support or financial assistance from other national rescue groups and relies solely on donations from the community and fundraisers such as this event.

All animals that enter through the CPHS doors stay at the shelter until they are adopted. There is no time limit on any animal’s length of stay.
