SFU offers STEM Summer Academies

LORETTO — The Saint Francis University Science Outreach Center announces its 2018 STEM Summer Academies. Don’t miss this opportunity to earn two college credits and experience living on a college campus for a week.

The summer academies are open for students who will be entering their junior or senior year of high school in the fall and are interested in engineering, computer science, health sciences, biology or chemistry. New programs for 2018 include a Sports Analytics Academy, Exciting Chemistry Academy and a Science of Psychology Academy.

The academies also include Environmental Engineering Design Academy, Biology: From Dragons to DNA Academy, App Inventor Academy, Science of Exercise Physiology Academy, Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering Design Academy, Pre-Med Academy for Rising Juniors, Pre-Med Academy for Rising Seniors and Protein Biochemistry Academy.

A program fee of $400 includes room, board, materials and tuition for two college credits (financial aid is available).

The one-week academies begin in late June and are offered through the end of July. The application deadline is April 15.

The day is spent in the academy, and evenings are packed with additional activities arranged by program mentors and also provide time to work with peers on projects. Students stay in the resident halls and enjoy meals in the dining hall.

For the second year, 20 qualified students participating in the Environmental Engineering Design Academy or the Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering Design Academy will have their program fee fully funded by the EQT Foundation.
