Roundtable to meet today at Van Zandt

A veterans roundtable meeting with VA Medical Center and VBA Regional Office leadership will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today on the second floor of the Van Zandt VA Medical Center, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.

Baker Mansion holiday tours begin Wednesday

The Blair County Historical So-ciety will have its annual Baker Mansion Holiday Tours Wednesday through Dec. 23. The mansion is at 3419 Oak Lane, Altoona. A tree lighting will be held at 5 p.m. Friday.

Tours will be offered from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and 2 to 7 p.m. Fridays.

Friday evenings feature guest performances, and Saturdays feature photos with Santa and soup sampling. Tours at the mansion are guided and include free refreshments provided by the Women’s Club of Altoona.

This year, the mansion showcases four Christmas trees decorated in vintage Victorian style by the Blair Garden Club. Also featured are a table setting, circa 1880, complete with country ham and oysters in the dining room and a look at the historic kitchen ladened with replicas of 19th-century groceries delivered by horse and wagon.

Admission is $10 per person, $7 for ages 12 and younger and are free for children ages 2 and younger.

The museum gift shop in the Lawruk Visitor’s Center is stocked with gifts for the holidays including books, DVDs, souvenirs, antique Blair County postcards and other local memorabilia and custom-made Baker Mansion and Altoona Christmas cards.

In addition, historic tours will be featured at Royer Mansion, 3909 Piney Creek Road, Williamsburg, home of the ironmaster Samuel Royer. This recently restored home will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to highlight its early 1800s decor and furnishings.

Railway employees to meet Wednesday

DUNCANSVILLE — The National Association of Retired & Veteran Railway Employees will meet at

11 a.m. Wednesday at the Prime Sirloin Buffet.

NARVRE is the only chartered national organization whose sole purpose is the protection of railroad pension rights.

All retired, veteran and present railroad employee (or widows) of any craft are invited to attend.

Choral society to hold Christmas concert

STATE COLLEGE — The State College Choral Society’s third annual Christmas concert will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday at Grace Luther-an Church, downtown.

In lieu of admission, audience members are invited to take a canned or non-perishable food item to the concert to benefit the State College Area Food Bank.
