HARP to present ‘Hello Dolly’

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg Area Repertory Players (HARP) will present “Hello Dolly” at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School suditorium.

“Hello Dolly” is a classic musical that tells the tale of matchmaker, Dolly Levi (played by Jamie Emerick) and her pursuit of Horace Vandergelder (Casey Ottaway.)

Along the way, she matches up hat shop owner, Irene Molloy (Helena Shivas) and her shopgirl, Minnie Fay (Natalie Rupp) with Vandergelder workers, Cornelius Hackyl (Shane Gleason) and Barnaby Tucker (David Claar.)

The show includes numerous tunes, including “Hello Dolly,” “Put on Your Sunday Clothes,” and “Before the Parade Passes by.” The show will feature student choreographer, Daria Van Allman.

War descendants to meet Wednesday

BELLWOOD — Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the Descendants of Civil War Veterans have moved their monthly meeting up a week.

The group will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bellwood-Antis Public Library.

Bellwood library changes programs

BELLWOOD — The Bellwood-Antis Public Library has made changes to its November programs.

n The Bellwood Historical Society presentation on Chief Logan will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 in the community room. The library is closed that day, but the community room will be open just for the meeting from

7 to 8 p.m.

n The library has added a presentation on the early history of Bellwood by local historian J. Perry Haupt. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21. Haupt will answer questions about Bellwood history. Historical activities for children will also be available in the children’s room during the program.

Health, wellness council to meet

The Blair County Health and Welfare Council will meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at The Arc of Blair County.

Amanda Grannas from Blair Drug and Alcohol Partnerships will talk about case management and the two different types of case management the group provides.

The Health and Welfare Council address has been changed to be under the United Way of Blair County, 5414 Sixth Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.

The council provides education and information to the public on health and human service needs, services and resources. The public is welcome to attend the meeting.

Archway offers Thanksgiving dinner

Archway Ministries Christian Church,, 401 Fifth Ave., Altoona, will hold a free Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 23 at the church.

Basket party is Saturday in Coalport

COALPORT — The Coalport Streetscape Committee will hold its 10th annual basket party on Saturday at the Coalport Firehall.

The doors will open at 2 p.m., and the drawing for baskets will begin at 4 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the door, at Christie’s Beauty Salon, Coalport, or from any member of the streetscape committee.

Tickets are $5 for 25 chances for baskets, plus one chance for the door prize. Prizes include a 55-inch flat-screen TV. Refreshments will be served.

All proceeds benefit the Coalport Streetscape projects.

Ostomy society to meet Sunday

The Central Pennsylvania Ostomy Society will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the rotunda on the sixth floor of the Outpatient Center at UPMC Altoona, 620 Howard Ave., Altoona.

The group offers information and support to new ostomy patients, including those who have undergone a colostomy, ileostomy and urostomy. One of the members is a certified ostomy nurse and has ideas for helping new members. In addition, members of the group have shared many tips for easier ostomy care. There is no cost to attend.
