Johnny Cash Tribute Show is Nov. 18

DUNCANSVILLE — The Duncansville Veterans of Foreigh Wars Post 8724 will host “The World’s Most Authentic Johnny Cash Tribute featuring Paul Anthony” at 8 p.m. Nov. 18 at the VFW Post.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling the VFW at 695-9703 or at the post.

Food safety training set for volunteers

Individuals involved in preparing or serving food for nonprofit or volunteer organizations are encouraged to attend “Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer’s Guide to Safe Food Handling.”

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1200 Fourth Ave., Duncansville.

The workshop is designed for volunteers who are responsible for preparing food for large numbers of people on occasion, such as church suppers, firehall dinners, band boosters or other types of food fundraisers.

The cost of the program is $50 per organization, which includes registration for two to four people. For each additional person there is a $5 per person fee. Individual registration is $25.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion and each organization or individual registrant will receive the food safety manual, thermometer and food safety posters.

Bazaar planned in Warriors Mark

WARRIORS MARK — A holiday bazaar will be held from 9 to 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Warriors Mark Firehall, Route 550.

Crafts, baked goods, homemade soup and lunch will be available.

Health, welfare council offers grants

The Blair County Health and Welfare Council announces grant opportunities for member organizations.

The purpose is to promote the general health and welfare of Blair County residents. The council provides competitive grants to council member organizations for services, programs and events provided for Blair County residents that reflect the mission of the council and address an identified community need.

Grant applications must be submitted electronically to the Health and Welfare Council no later than 4 p.m. Dec. 22 at blaircountyhealthandwelfare@hotmail.com.

Grants will be awarded at the January Health and Welfare Council meeting. Funds must be expended by June 30 of the award year.

Jewelry Box plans Toys for Tots event

Your Jewelry Box will host a Toys for Tots Santa and Reindeer Event to collect new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots to distribute as gifts to less fortunate children in the community.

The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 26 at Your Jewelry Box, 908 Logan Blvd., Altoona.

The Your Jewelry Box Toys for Tots event will feature complimentary holiday snacks, hot cocoa, photos with Santa and his Reindeer, a jewelry drawing, Santa Secret Gift Shop just for kids, food concessions and live music provided by local schools.

The U.S. Marine Corps will be on site to collect new, unwrapped toys and monetary donations for Toys for Tots.
