YTI Altoona students place first at SkillsUSA conference

YTI Career Institute, Altoona, announced that three students placed first in the nation at the 2017 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference, held June 19 to 23 in Louisville, Ky.

More than 6,000 outstanding career and technical education students gathered from across the U.S. to showcase hands-on in abilities in 100 trade, technical and leadership fields.

Three students from YTI Career Institute, Altoona, placed first in the nation in the Career Pathways Showcase — Human Services, where team members used their course of study as the basis for a project that would benefit their class, school, community or industry.

n Alesha Shields, a criminal justice and first response major from Altoona.

n Carley Hahn, a criminal justice and first response major from Portage.

n Christopher Onder, a medical billing and coding major from Philipsburg.

SkillsUSA is a student leadership organization available to all career and technical students.

It serves middle school, high school and post-secondary students and professional members who are enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled and service occupations nationwide.
