Style show will feature Bedford County merchants

Although the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art’s new Bedford site may not open for several months, the Altoona museum is giving SAMA patrons a sneak peek at some of what Bedford has to offer.

This year, for the museum’s 15th annual fashion show fundraiser, Think Pink, the museum has invited clothiers from Bedford County to showcase their fashions in the event’s signature style show.

Beverly’s Touch of Class, Cove Creek Outfitters and GiGi’s Store will all be in the spotlight on Nov. 3, when Think Pink returns to Altoona.

“Our Gala featured the colors of red, white and blue, but that does not stop us from Thinking Pink,” said SAMA-Altoona coordinator Barbara Hollander. “This year, we will be highlighting the fashions from our newest satellite location of Bedford. The merchants are anxious to introduce themselves to Blair County, and we are thrilled to be working with them.”

Think Pink has developed a strong following due to its metropolitan flair. The event opens in the Altoona museum with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before moving next door to The Columns for dinner, dessert, dancing, auctions and the style show. Chantel Ventura returns as chairwoman.

This year, guests will be treated to a spicy affair, as Doug Simon and The Casino prepare a Mexican fiesta buffet.

Spirits will remain high as guests visit the new tequila tasting bar.

In addition to the style show, Think Pink also features a jewelry-and-fine-art raffle and a silent auction that will offer two Mexican vacations, a child’s rocking chair hand-painted by artist Helen Gorsuch and a guitar autographed by The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman.

For the fifth consecutive year, the museum is partnering with the American Cancer Society on the event.

A portion of the proceeds from Think Pink will go to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign, with recent donations helping provide quality wigs to cancer patients free of charge, as well as benefiting support groups, informational classes and other vital outreach programs.

Since the partnership began in 2013, SAMA has donated more than $12,000 to the American Cancer Society.

Think Pink also serves as SAMA-Altoona’s chief fundraising effort, and one of the entire SAMA system’s most critical fundraisers, helping fund exhibitions, educational programs, and also keeping the doors of SAMA’s four museums open to the public free of charge.

Think Pink begins at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 3. Cost is $100 per person. Valet parking will be available. Reservations are requested by Oct. 30 and can be made at www.sama-art.org or by calling 946-4464. Sponsorship and advertising opportunities also are available.
